Hanoi is unbearably cold right now. It’s not the number—50 °F/10 °C—that’s ever incredibly impressive. The number is deceptive. It’s colder than that, and it’s the kind of cold that seeps into clothing, houses, food, and blankets. It’s simply unbearable at times. I’m fighting it today with porridge, which retains heat well after it’s been spooned and until the last bite. Two portions is too much. I’ll purchase one next time.
