The last week was a lot harder than I imagined it would be. Jet lag suffered from a Florence to Hanoi trip grounded me for several days, so much so that I was hardly able to do much outside of putting on a WordPress 10th anniversary party. What was originally planned on being a final hurrah in Hanoi — for a long while at least — ended up being mostly sleep, sickness, and packing. The best laid plans…
For the first time since 2010 I am officially homeless until I get settled into a long-term apartment in San Francisco next month. I’m in Saigon (dinner tonight was at Park Hyatt Saigon with Chánh, naturally) for a few days to say a few goodbyes, and then it’s off to the United States with two check-ins and two carry-ons.
I’m not sure if I’ll ever call Vietnam home again but I suspect that giving a solid Yes or No to the question will end up in me being wrong, as has always been the case. I’m also not sure that San Francisco will become a permanent fixture in my life, but for right now I’m going to give it a shot and see how it goes. If it goes well, I’ll stay. If it doesn’t, there are always options.
