A Decade Worth Listening to Again

Data is beautiful. Since 2006 I’ve tracked over 210,000 songs via last.fm. That’s around 42 songs per day at an average listening time of 3-4 minutes per song. And this doesn’t account for the 20-30% of songs that I never tracked.

So, in the last 13 years, I’ve listened to 12,255 hours of music. 2010 and 2014 were big years for me. In those two years alone I listened to 67,578 songs.

Switching gears, changing jobs, love life shakeups, financial problems, illnesses, none of it mattered because I had music with me.

This year’s Spotify look back has me particularly nostalgic and, without exception, every single slide they created is stunning both visually and in what it means to me. I do keep a running playlist used exclusively for coding, but it’s about more than that.

Apple, Spotify, YouTube, however I can get it. Music remains my drug of choice. I look forward to another decade of sound. Without it, I would be in a very sunken place.
