Family Dinner at Thanh Phuong Restaurant

It’s been nearly three years since I’ve seen my mom and probably many more than that since I’ve spent more than a day or so at her home. This trip to Texas has been lovely so far, and tonight I invited the family out to dinner before work begins again next week. Naturally the choice was Vietnamese—I like for my family to try new things and Vietnamese food in the Houston/Pearland area is very good.

My grandmother—who has visited me twice in Vietnam—, my mother, my sister and her family, and I ate at Thanh Phuong Restaurant. The food was good, but it did taste a bit different than the Vietnamese food I’m used to in Vietnam. Whereas the noodles, rice, and vegetables I eat in Vietnam are all fresh and well-prepared, the protein at Vietnamese restaurants in the States shines best. Chicken, pork, beef, and shrimp are all extremely delicious, while the vegetables and carbs are suitable (not bad at all), but not remarkable.

I’ll take either way, really.
